Trillar y Aventar

Nobles and monks extract salt from Poza de la Sal. Centurions across the empire are paid salaries from the crystalized seas. Windmills sprout on leased land across Castilla y León, the energy flowing principally to País Vasco and Madrid. Pastors drive their sheep to Poza for shearing. Wool carts cross the Montes Obarenes to the port of Santander, bound for Flanders. Monsanto conducts the first field tests of sterile, genetically-modified plants. The Caliphate arrives, reversing the flow of salt for a short while. The Nuclear Plant at Santa María de Garoña releases 6000 liters of radioactive water into the Río Ebro. Potatoes arrive from the Americas.
