The etymological meaning of the word Apocalypse tells us about the action of unveiling a hidden truth. In rural areas today, we can perceive symptoms of a long-held lie. Droughts, fires and abandonment in the most lagging-behind areas in Europe and South America are hidden behind a false sense of prosperity in large cities. The name of these lies is the myth of ´technical progress´, which transforms the territory into a cipher appealing to a false sense of objectivity and concealing private interests.
In this definition, the rural areas are oft thought of as ´sacrifice areas´ that need to be kept lagging behind because only the promise of ´modernization´ is the way to save them. In order to overcome this myth, I create a new one that can provide us with a path out of the void of production and consumption. Enclaves made of charred wood appear on the landscape, deities made of our burned dreams of progress and technocracy. On their surface, they show us that what burns is not only the trees but our humanity.
